The old transport sector codes that were gazetted back in 2009 by the Minister of Trade and Industry are outdated and no longer reflect the current business environment in South Africa. This created a problem for businesses in the transport sector, as they are currently required to comply with these outdated codes.
The Integrated Transport Sector B-BBEE Charter aims to address this issue by realigning the transport sector codes with the Codes of Good Practice. This will ensure that the transport sector codes are up-to-date and relevant to the current business environment.
The realignment of the transport sector codes also intends to create new opportunities for black businesses in the transport sector. The new codes will place a greater emphasis on black ownership and control. The intention is to make it easier for black businesses to enter the transport sector to compete with white-owned businesses.
The Department of Trade and Industry is holding meetings for each sub-sector in the transport sector to discuss the process of realignment. This aims to be fixed by the Integrated Transport Sector B-BBEE Charter which hopes to align itself back with the Codes of Good Practice.
This aims to be corrected by the Integrated Transport Sector B-BBEE Charter which hopes to align itself back with the Codes of Good Practice.
Businesses in the transport sector are encouraged to attend these meetings and voice their support or objections for the realignment.
